How to choose the perfect leather jacket

the perfect leather jacket

A leather jacket is a must-have item in every person's wardrobe and is also a great way to express your personal style. Leather jackets for men never go out of style, they are warm, durable, timeless and always look classic. Once you buy a quality leather jacket, you can wear it for many years and still look fashionable and stylish. Leather jackets are as essential as a three-piece suit, jeans and quality shoes.

Leather Jackets for men continue to be attractive and comfortable, a stylish addition to men's jackets. Follow our tips to choose the perfect leather jacket that will perfectly match your outfit, figure and personal style.

Choosing jackets by style

Conventionally, men's jackets can be divided into jackets for bikers, pilots and military personnel. Following these ideas, leather jackets, bomber leather jackets have become popular in men's fashion. Biker jackets typically reach to the waist and feature metal rivets and zippered pockets, and are designed to have a snug fit. Biker jackets and bomber jackets are more suitable for a sporty style; they are practical with jeans and casual wear. For a more formal style, jackets or leather coats are better.

Choosing a color

Color is also important when purchasing a men's leather jacket. Most men prefer to wear black or brown leather jackets.

Brown leather jackets look classic and more informal, and are great for men with a more casual style. Plus, they look good paired with jeans.

Black leather jackets can be worn with a business suit, such as pinstripe, but they also go well with jeans or casual trousers.

If you're not sure what you like best, choose a color based on the majority of your wardrobe: if you wear mostly bright colors or white and black, then buy a black leather jacket; if you wear warm, pastel colors, then choose a brown jacket.

Choosing leather quality

The choice of leather for the jacket is also very important. Typically, jackets are made from sheepskin or cowhide. Sheepskin is softer and smoother to the touch. Calf leather is more durable, however, with a significant drawback - any scratches on it remain visible. Jackets are also made from pigskin, but we would not recommend buying them, although pigskin is cheaper compared to sheepskin and calfskin, but it is also less durable. This jacket will not serve you for long; it will quickly wear out and lose its appearance.

Leather textures range from the buttery soft, thin leather of sheepskin to the dense, thick leather of more durable jackets. Suede is another option, although it requires more care and attention, but it looks stylish and beautiful.

How not to buy a fake:

When choosing a jacket, inspect it carefully. Pay attention to the label. The best manufacturers of leather products are considered to be firms from Italy, Canada, Great Britain, Sweden and Finland. Jackets from Turkey and Korea are of high quality. You should not buy jackets of Chinese origin, because you may come across very poor quality work and, instead of a pleasant purchase, you will be very disappointed. It is best to buy a jacket in a company showroom or in a store, since on the clothing market there is a high probability of buying a low-quality item.

Check whether you are actually buying a genuine leather jacket and not a substitute. The easiest way is to place your palm on the surface of the jacket, if you feel warm, then the leather is natural, artificial leather will always remain cold. If you drop a little water on the jacket, natural leather will absorb water and its color will become darker; artificial leather does not absorb water.

The surface of the skin should be the same thickness everywhere. If you notice folds, unevenness and bruises on the leather itself, this is already a reason to think about whether it’s worth buying it. The leather should be smooth in appearance, it does not wrinkle during storage, and folds can only form if sewn incorrectly. Areas around the armpits and back of the collar require additional inspection as lower quality leather is often used there. The strength of the paint or protective water-repellent film can be checked with a damp cloth. Well-dyed leather does not fade or leave marks, so the napkin should remain clean. If you lightly scratch the surface of the leather, it should not peel off or leave traces of paint.

When purchasing a leather jacket, make sure that the construction of the jacket is correct. The seams should be strong and perfect, with no loose threads or skipped stitches, and the bottom edge should be smooth and straight. The collar and pockets should lie correctly. Check the quality of the lining, especially in pockets where it gets the most wear. Check how the zippers open, if all the buttons and rivets are present and if they are securely fastened, how the buttons are sewn and if there are any cracks or scratches in the places where they are attached.

And the last thing...

The vintage leather jacket should make you feel like the center of attention. A jacket should make a woman feel: great, sexy, confident, edgy, chic, stylish, elegant. A jacket should make a man feel: gorgeous, sophisticated, cool, brutal, and in some cases, a “rock star.”
